From drones, to 3D printing, to driverless cars, developments in technology have the scope to massively revolutionise the way that we shop. 

The idea of shopping without needing to face the dreaded checkout queue is something that a lot of people (other than checkout operatives presumably) would likely relish purely from the perspective of speed and efficiency, and this move from Amazon in Seattle appears to have fascinating potential (including interestingly around eliminating the scope for shoplifting!).  Clearly there are a few wrinkles to iron out with it, and the idea of your every move being so closely monitored by the dreaded 'eye in the sky' feels somewhat Orwellian, however against a background of rising staffing costs linked to things such as rises in the National Living Wage, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for the first one of these to open up in the UK.
