Samuel Peace, Solicitor discusses the Government's latest response to the film and tv industry's views on illicit IPTV streaming:

The Government's response to its call for views on the issue of illicit IPTV streaming services and devices will be mostly welcomed by film and TV content owners and broadcasters, notwithstanding that it chose not to propose making any legislative changes at this time, instead taking the view that existing legislation provides sufficient basis for taking effective action.

It is nonetheless positive to see the Government recognise that IPTV piracy is a wide-spread and growing problem which requires additional attention and resources. With the focus on public education campaigns, the Government's response cites the frightening study from the Industry Trust, which revealed that almost 1 in every 5 adults have admitted to engaging in the use of illicit streaming devices!
