The number of empty retail premises in UK town centres climbed by more than 4,400 in the first six months of this year. According to the British Retail Consortium, about 85,000 retail jobs have been lost this year as 1,000 retail business entered administration – ranging from big chains such as Maplin and Poundworld to small independent traders.
