NFU President, Minette Batters, says our aim must be ambitious and British farmers must aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions within the next two decades.

Agriculture is a major contributor to climate change and is responsible for 10% of the UK's greenhouse gases and the aim is to reach net zero by 2040, meaning any remaining gases produced are removed from the atmosphere.

This marks a significant increase in ambition however, such government focus on environmental services needs to be carefully balanced so as to not compromise the UK's food security following Brexit.
