I love it when something complicated is made simple and IKEA have done it again - no not with a baby unit storage system but with the concept of Blockchain.
They have designed a prototype Solarville where inhabitants can buy and sell excess electricity using a blockchain platform. Blockchain is still seen by many as a bit of a dark art but here it is reduced to something much more easy to understand - think of it as ios on Apple or DOS on old computers. It is simply an enabler and if that helps/encourages people in saving the planet then what is not to like.
SolarVille is an interactive model in which viewers can see the whole flow of energy through small LED lights embedded in the model that showcases electricity traded within the community in real-time. A hatch on the side of the table displays the underlying blockchain technology at work. As a result, the model enables observation of a functioning network of blockchain-traded energy and interacts with an artificial sun to see its effect on the system
