£13.4m awarded to Smart Mobility Lab in Greenwich

By Martin Cuell

A significant chunk of the £51m set aside by the Government to enhance the UK's development of connected and autonomous vehicles has recently been awarded to a consortium led by TRL to develop and operate a smart mobility lab in Greenwich London.

This is the first step in the Government's plan to develop a co-ordinated approach across the UK to the development and deployment of CAVs (Connected and Autonomous Vehicles).  The test bed will enable operate on an open environment basis to encourage and harness collaborative thinking amongst transport service operators, technology providers, SMEs, local and central government and academics.

TRL is also involved in a number of autonomous/connected, electric and shared mobility services.

It's encouraging to see that these collaborative projects are being established and will be interesting to assess the output of them over the next few years.
