The Times They Are a-Changin' - NPPF to offer greater protection for music venues

By James Clark

Owners and operators of music venues will be pleased by today's announcement that the government will consult on changes to the National Planning Policy Framework to protect music venues where new homes are proposed nearby.

Tim Taylor, Foot Anstey's head of planning, has acted for a number of prominent music venues around the country and has long called for the agent of change principle to be introduced into national planning policy.  Tim has also pioneered innovative solutions offering music venues increased protection from noise complaints by future occupiers of proposed residential developments.

The National Planning Policy Framework, which local authorities are legally bound to comply with, will now be clarified to include a specific mention of the ‘Agent of Change’ principle, and will be consulted on in spring.
