8.7% rise in exports for the South West Food and Drink sector

By James Collings

An 8.7% rise in exports is great news for the South West Food and Drink sector.  As Treasury secretary Liz Truss recently commented: 'Exporting boosts the earnings of a business, and the wages of local workers, it also enhances the reputation of Britain and Cornwall around the world".  In a 'post Brexit' landscape, it's comforting to know that the food and drink offering we have in this country has such a strong footing. The more that can be done to support those operating in this area and promoting the 'best of British' around the world the better (which I'd suggest also includes helping such businesses retain the workforce needed to produce these wonderful products!)

Exports of south west food and drink increased to £838 million in the year to June 2018, a rise of 8.7% compared to the previous 12 months, the latest HMRC figures show.
